Carlo Bella is a leading international art dealer specializing in the traditional art of Africa, Oceania and the Americas who hails from Milan, Italy, where his family of art dealers, artists and collectors fueled his love of art.

 

In 1982 he graduated from NYU with a degree in political science and art history, and joined Pace a year later. In 1986, Carlo created the Old Master Print department at Pace Prints which he ran until 2002 when he became the Director of Pace African & Oceanic Art. Drawing on his knowledge and collecting of African art and Oceanic art for over 40 years, Carlo led the gallery into the 21st century adapting to an ever-changing art market.

 

Over the last 20 years Carlo curated major exhibitions such as, Couples in African Art, Native Visions: African Art and German Expressionist Prints, Shaped Stone of the Sahara and From the World of Dreams: Melanesian Art and Important Surrealist Prints, co-curated with Mr. Timothy Baum. 

 

In his capacity as Director of Pace African & Oceanic Art, Carlo produced a number of catalogues and participated in several international art fairs such as TEFAF Maastricht, Frieze Masters, Parcours des Mondes, ADAA The Art Show and the Salon Art and Design. 

 

In 2025, Carlo will embark on a new chapter of his career. Committed to connoisseurship and scholarship, Carlo's mission is to partner with discriminating collectors and institutions to acquire artworks of the highest artistic merit, ranging from traditional African art, Oceanic art, Old Master prints, antiquities and Contemporary art.  Carlo also offers advice on purchasing artwork at auction, appraisals and conservation.
